The
Cargo Ship is one of the props finished
in the first bunch, while I was
still unaware of a need to change
overall design of film. However,
her role always was and remained
limited to be just part of the set,
and not the separate item. The model
depicts bow section and the port
side, just about half of the ship's
lenght, and it's sole purpose was
to co-exist with other set items,
so I left it unchanged.

The
interesting thing is, that my first
design of that ship was this doodle
on the left, depicting the ship in
distorted fashion, but in a way to
look overwhelmed with cargo, like
she's going to fold in the middle
and sink. Such an impression could
be distracting in shots with the ship,
but the main reasons for the final
design were these: 1) the camera angle,
which implied straight lines for ship's
side to boost perspective; and 2)
I thought that Cargo containers will
be more demanding to produce, then
they actually were, so it'd be better
instead to achieve height (to block
the monotonous background) with ship's
sides, rather than with that pile
of cargo containers.
