workbenches,
tools, storage, logistics
It's impossible to see all that stuff
once the film is finished, but one
thing is sure - there wouldn't be
any parts of this film without it.
-The
workshop- was situated in another
studio. I've converted almost whole
three room apartment to serve as a
workshop for pre-production, and occasionally,
during production.
-The
storage- that other studio took the
burdain of storage for all of the
used props and the ones for much later
use.
That place was completely fullfilled
with all the props/models, unused
materials and auxilliary equipment,
after the shooting.
-The
transport- It would be just perfect
to put everything in a big van/truck
and transport it in one, or two takes
to, or from the studio.
However, these props, puppets and
all the tools are a handfull, if possible
at all, to pack. Everything's fragile,
only a few things can even fit into
proper boxes,
so high transport spaces were of no
use. Also, there's only that much
I could carry through doors and stairs,
so no more than a backseat of a car
was needed. And that
backseat travelled to the Moon and
back.
-the
camera accessories
I made this tilt device for animating
the tilt frame at the time.
This stop-motion machine is actually
a writting machine with extra long
feeding cilinder.
-Workbenches etc
-I've used this old army steel profiles,
originally for shelves, to construct
the stands - benches, that can be
moveable, yet firm and steady. Three
of a kind.
And one frame for holding the backdrop
in position. Additional profiles were
easily attachable to benches, for
various purposes.
-usefull junk- now, that's really
something- day or night, working day
or holiday, I had to have everything
I might (*) need in the "arm's
reach".
But, hey, there's been roughly a million
things I "might" need!?
So, I needed some sort of "library"
for parts and filing system, so I
can find particular part when needed.
Metal parts, plastic ones, wodden,
glass beads,
rubber parts, paper/cardboard, textile,
ribbons of all sorts... cylinders,
cubes, discs, balls, sticks, big,
small, long or short... Most of the
those parts
were situated in the workshop's storage,
neatly classified at the beggining.
As the shooting progressed, I didn't
have enough time to return unused
pieces
in their propper boxes or drawers,
so the chaos begin to creep-in. At
the end, it was mostly mixed chaos
that's left behind. The place is so
filled up that
it's almost impossible to bring some
order in it.
