Left
Window and "Fireplace" Door
|
|
|
The
idea to use left-side window for this
shot originated from animatic layout,
but transforming Santa's fireplace
into a fancy house entrance was simply
an improvisation. And that was based
on a premise that I could save time,
some repro material and storage space
by using same pieces several times,
if only I can make some add-ons to
that props, making them somewhat different
and thus not quite recognizable. This
is the common practice in full scale
production design for feature films.
Now, in some cases - like using the
left-side store window in multiple
roles - this works just fine, but
in others, like this marriage between
Santa's fireplace and a door, it turned
out more complicated than if I'd make
two separate models. In such case
allright, I'd have to make the "fireplace"
portion of the entrance twice. But
than, the "entrance" twin
could be simpler to produce, and it'd
be easier to make the whole thing
fixed as one item, than as a composite,
as it eventualy was. The final verdict
on the method isn't bad, it possibly
saved some time in execution, it did
save some materials and storage space,
but in the figures that are not worth
mentioning. It wasn't a loss, but
the thing is, there wasn't any big
gain in it, either.

The
Liquor Shop
|
|
|
|
I've used the left-side window again,
together with the modified Toystore
shop entrance and it's left side turned
here into the right side. Fake Santa
was to exit the shop, so I had to
make new, functional, animable door
and the shop's interior.
